Arsenal Win To Go Third

English Premier League

Full Time: Arsenal 2-0 Everton

Date: 01 March 2015

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 in an English Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday to move back into third place on the table.

The win sees the gunners jump above Manchester United into third with 51 points, one point above the Red Devils while Everton are in 14th place with 28 points.

Everton controlled the early possession, but they struggled to fashion any real clear cut chances on goal due to some poor decision making in the final third.

The first real scoring chance came in the 17th minute when Romelu Lukaku broke behind the defence, but failed to beat the Arsenal keeper in a one-on-one.

As they half progresses the Gunners started finding their feet and created their first chance in the 29th minute when Oliver Giroud met Alexis Sanchez cross with a diving header, but his effort went inches wide of the target.

Ten minutes later Arsenal scored the opening goal when Giroud found space at a corner kick and volleyed home in emphatic fashion, 1-0.

Santiago nearly doubled the home side’s lead a minute before the break when he saw his 25-yard shot brilliantly saved by Tim Howard.

Everton was the better team at the start of the second half, but similar to the first they struggled to break down a well-organised Arsenal defence.

The Toffees did manage to get an effort on goal in the 65th minute when a quick break out saw Lukaku break into the box from the right, but saw his powerful shot superbly tipped around the post by the Arsenal keeper.

Everton threw numbers forward in search of the equaliser, but the game was taken away from them in the 89th minute when a deflected 20-yard shot from Thomas Rosicky wrong footed the keeper and found the back of the net, 2-0.
