Full Time: Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United
Date: 7 May 2017
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Two goals in three minutes handed Arsenal a 2-0 win over Manchester United in an English Premier League match at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
United started well with Anthony Martial breaking into the box as early as the fifth minute, but he was superbly denied in a one-on-one with Petr Cech.
In the ninth minute Arsenal created their first significant chance in front of goal when Aaron Ramsey found himself in space on the edge of the box, but his shot was saved by the fingertips of David de Gea.
On the half hour mark Danny Welbeck missed a sitter when an inch-perfect cross found him unmarked in the box, but he headed in the ball inches over the target.
The half ended 0-0.
Ten minutes into the second stanza Arsenal took the lead when Granit Xhaka fired a deflected effort past an outstretched David De Gea from 30-yards out, 1-0.
Three minutes later Arsenal doubled their lead when Danny Welbeck headed home a perfect lofted pass from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 2-0.
United tried to find their way back into the match and came close to pulling a goal back in the 65th minute when Wayne Rooney curled a free-kick towards goal, but Petr Cech made a fantastic save to deny him.
Ten minutes later Rooney was afforded another scoring chance when he broke behind the Arsenal backline, but he fired wide with just the keeper to beat.
United continued to push forward in the final 15 minutes of the game, but were unable to break down a well-organised Arsenal defence.
The loss leaves United in fifth place on the table with 65 points from 35 matches while Arsenal are in sixth place with 63 points from 34 matches.
