After losing Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid are reportedly chasing two Chelsea stars, and one of them now seems ready to force a move out of the Premier League club.
Los Blancos are still looking for a replacement for Ronaldo, and have been heavily linked with Eden Hazard. However, it seems his teammate Thibaut Courtois is more likely to arrive at Santiago Bernabeu in this window than he is.
The 26-year-old is understood to be the main target of president Florentino Perez, who seems desperate for a new goalkeeper, and has reportedly already agreed a deal with the Spanish club.
According to The Sun, Courtois has informed Chelsea of his intention to leave. He does not want to sign a new deal at the English club, and is said to be prepared to walk out on a free when his contract expires after the 2018/19 season if the Blues do not agree to sell him this window.
The Belgium goalkeeper, who won the Golden Glove at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, is believed to be concerned about Chelsea’s struggles last season, and no UEFA Champions League football this campaign. In addition, he wants to be closer to his family, who live in Spain.
Chelsea, meanwhile, do not want to spend more than £20 million (R349 million) on a replacement, and have struggled to find any adequate option, with the likes of Jordan Pickford and Kasper Schmeichel understood to be valued at a lot more by their respective clubs.
Joe Hart, a player Manchester City want to get off their wage bill, has become an option for the Blues, while new Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri wants to talk face-to-face with Courtois in a bid to convince him to stay.
Courtois, though, only returns from his holiday following the World Cup next week, which leaves Chelsea with just a few days to make a decision before the transfer window closes on 9 August.
