Chelsea scout, Piet De Visser, says that Blues owner Roman Abramovich could buy Lionel Messi if he really wanted to.
The 80-year-old Dutchman works as an advisor to Abramovich and is widely acknowledged as playing a significant role in brining stars like Ronaldo and Romario to Europe.
De Visser also revealed Messi’s name has been discussed at Chelsea in the past.
"As a football fan, it would be great to see him (Messi) with Chelsea,” the former PSV scout told Dutch paper De Telegraaf.
“I've always been a Messi fan, since he was a 13-year-old from Argentina and went to Barcelona. Messi is obviously a phenomenon and also only 27.
"In the past, the name of Messi has often been discussed at Chelsea, but he was always too expensive. If Roman Abramovich really wants him, he can of course do anything.
"But whether he's serious, I cannot say. I'm in Ghana and I have had no contact with the club for a while. If I knew, I would indeed not be allowed to talk to the press.”
Chelsea’s assistant manager, Steve Holland, has recently dismissed claims that the Blues could afford Messi.
