The Blues seem to be struggling somewhat in the current window, with reports suggesting they are interested Carroll to replace Michy Batshuayi, who is likely to leave the club this month.

However, due to the 29-year-old's ankle injury that will see him sidelined for four to six weeks, Chelsea are now searching for another forward, and Stoke City’s Peter Crouch has now emerged as a surprise target, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Chelsea are reportedly keen to sign a proven Premier League goalscorer, with target man qualities, and are understood to be keen to loan him until the end of the season.

The 36-year-old extended his Stoke deal for another year earlier this month, and has scored 57 goals in 222 appearances for the Potters so far.

It has been claimed that Chelsea do not want to commit to major changes in this window while manager Antonio Conte's future at the club is in doubt. Fernando Llorente and Christian Benteke are other options the Blues have reportedly considered.
