According to the Daily Mail, the Blues have stepped up their interest in Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri, who has apparently indicated that he wants to leave the Italian club at the end of this season.
The Stamford Bridge side has apparently been considering various candidates in recent months, including the likes of former FC Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti.
Sarri, who has only ever coached in Serie A so far, saw his Napoli outfit lead the Italian league for most of the season, but surrendered top spot to Turin giants Juventus last month.
The Italian is said to be looking for a fresh challenge next season, and with Chelsea set to end the campaign outside the top four, Roman Abramovich has reportedly made the 59-year-old his preferred candidate to replace Conte.
The London club would be liable to pay their Italian manager out the last year of his £9 million (R152.5 million) a year contract if they do sack him before next season, and would also need to pay Napoli £7 million (R118.6 million) to activate Sarri's release clause.
The report suggests that Chelsea officials have made contact with the Serie A club over the possible availability for their manager but there has been no confirmation of these claims.
