Arsene Wenger: Partying African Star Could Be Fined
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted an African star at the club could be fined for a breach of discipline if he was out partying less than 48 hours before their FA Cup defeat on Sunday.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was reportedly pictured partying at 02:37am in an apartment with friends in Soho, London, on Saturday morning, ahead of Arsenal's 4-2 FA Cup loss to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The 21-year-old was one of several players who were blasted for their poor performance during the game, and Wenger has confirmed that the club will reprimand the player if the reports of his late night so soon before the game are legitimate.
"If that is true, he will be fined," Wenger said at a press conference, according to ESPN.
"It is impossible to go out 48 hours before a game. It's unacceptable."
According to The Sun, Iwobi was at "a drug-fuelled house party", and it has been claimed by the publication that other party-goers were smoking cannabis and inhaling laughing gas.
"First of all, you have to be cautious with the news coming out. When you read what has been reported, it is like he has taken drugs," Wenger added.
"He is not involved in that at all, he has been out at a birthday party. How long has he stayed? That is important. After, I will decide what happens.
"If your neighbour takes drugs, what can you do about it? You are responsible for your behaviour, not for the behaviour of your neighbour."
Iwobi has made 18 appearances for the Gunners so far this season, scoring one goal and assisting two further strikes.
