The 22-year-old joins the Premier League side until the end of the season, but the deal does not include an option to buy.
"It's great that we've secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season," Gunners boss Mikel Arteta told the club's official website.
"Martin is, of course, a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while.
"Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we're all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May."
Odegaard made only seven league appearances under Zinedine Zidane in the first half of the campaign despite being recalled to the Santiago Bernabeu just one year into a two-year loan deal with Real Sociedad.
The LaLiga side also wanted to re-sign Odegaard in this window, but a call from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly swung the player's decision in the Gunners' favour.
He will wear the No. 11 shirt that was recently vacated by Mesut Ozil.
