Arsenal have reportedly identified the player they want to replace Martin Odegaard, who is set to return to Real Madrid after his loan spell with the London club came to an end.
It is believed that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta was keen on signing Odegaard on a permanent basis after an impressive end to the 2020/21 campaign.
According to the Daily Mirror, with the Norwegian starlet having returned to Los Blancos, the north London outfit has now turned its attention to Leicester midfielder James Maddison.
English journalist Chris Wheatley has also reported that the Gunners are monitoring the 24-year-old, who was once linked with Manchester United after impressing for the Foxes.
Maddison, who was snubbed for England's 2020 UEFA European Championship squad, contributed with 11 goals and 10 assists in 42 appearances for the 2020/21 FA Cup winners last season, which was more than any Arsenal midfielder achieved.
