Why, after gaining another move to another European giant, is Romelu Lukaku still being urged to "train more" by Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte?
Lukaku has had weight issues since "bulking up" for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he scored four group stage goals, and said, "I just felt great and I think I played great over there (in Russia)", according to The Guardian.
Since then, the scandal surrounding his physique has only become increasingly concerning.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville pulled no punches in his assessment of the former Manchester United player's fitness levels and overall professionalism toward his football, writing on Twitter in August: "He (Lukaku) admitted he was overweight! He is over 100kg!", according to talkSPORT.
Although the Inter Milan forward responded to Neville's tweet – saying: "He (Neville) can talk about my fitness but he should never say anything about my professionalism, that I don't work hard enough", according to The Metro – does the former Red Devils and England star have a point?
For instance, during his final pre-season at Manchester United, the Belgian seemingly decided to prove his "high" levels of fitness by tweeting his top running speed of 36.25km/h, according to tribal football, causing a stir among some former teammates.
Was Lukaku's tweet, which was later deleted, an attempt to deflect attention away from other aspects of his physical levels?
As recently as Sunday, an alarming statistic, as revealed by Bleacher Report, suggests that despite the striker's three goals for Inter so far this season, he is still isn't fully fit: in the Derby d'Italia between the Nerazzurri and Juventus at the San Siro, Lukaku misplaced an embarrassing 40% of his attempted passes during the 90 minutes.
Why is it that, after a year, surrounded by sports scientists, professional fitness coaches and dietitians, a player like Lukaku still has weight and fitness issues?
Do you think the striker is, in fact, acting unprofessionally, or is he perhaps just taking longer than normal to reach full fitness?
