Manchester United’s record signing, Angel Di Maria has found it difficult to adapt to English football and his impact on the pitch has faded.
Van Gaal Denies Giggs Rift Rumours
The former Real Madrid midfielder began life at Old Trafford on a very positive not, but has failed to score in the league since he found the back of the net against Everton way back in October. His last strike in all competitions came against Yeovil Town in January.
In total, he has scored four times and made eight assists since completing his move to the Red Devils. In addition to this, he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes in any of his last four appearances, which may indicate fitness issues.
“When a player is not in a match, I have to do that. I'm the manager and I cannot deny what I see,” Louis van Gaal said after subbing Di Maria out of last weekend’s match against Sunderland at half time.
“The first season is always difficult. We have to give him time, not just for him but to all the other players. Di María is not the only player who has suffered a bad day. He can be the best player in the world in the next match so I think everything is going well.”
However, Di Maria did just as poorly against Newcastle on Wednesday, completing only 63.7% of his passes. So, the question must be asked. When will Di Maria return to the form that made him a star for Real Madrid last season?
