Alexis Sanchez: Why I Joined Manchester United
Alexis Sanchez, who was close to joining Manchester City at the beginning of the season but completed a transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United on Monday night, has now revealed why he chose to join the Red Devils.
The 29-year-old signed a four and a half year contract at Old Trafford, a deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way.
The Chilean, who spent the past three and a half years at Arsenal, almost joined United's crosstown rivals City on deadline day in August, and was again heavily linked with the Citizens in January before United hijacked the deal.
Sanchez has now explained his reasons for opting to join the red side of Manchester.
"Since I was a young lad, I've always said that my dream was to play for Manchester United, and I'm not just saying that because I'm here now and today it's come true," he told the club's official website.
"I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world. I have spent three and a half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans.
"The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down.
"I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United's first team and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here."
United are Sanchez's fourth club in Europe after stints with Udinese, FC Barcelona and the Gunners, during which he 148 goals in 419 games for those three sides.
