The Chilean has become the highest paid Premier League player after joining United on a four and a half year contract worth £500 000 per week (R8.5 million), according to the BBC’s Simon Stone.

The Red Devils had to fend off interest from crosstown rivals Manchester City, who initially looked nailed on to secure the attacker's services, to sign the 29-year-old and offered him the most lucrative deal in Premier League history.

Sanchez will reportedly pocket an annual salary of £14 million (R237 million) after tax, which means the Red Devils will pay him £27 million (R458 million) before deductions.

In addition to his massive salary, he will also receive a £20 million (R339 million) signing-on fee, while his agent also will also get a £10 million (169.5 million) signing bonus.

Overall, Sanchez's deal will cost United more than £151.5 million (R2.57 billion) over the duration of his contract.

The winger leaves the Gunners after three and a half years, during which he scored 80 goals and assisted another 46 strikes for the London club.
