Former England Star Jailed For Child-Sex Case
Former England international Adam Johnson has been handed a six-year prison sentence for engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
He was found guilty and was sentenced by Judge Jonathan Rose, who told the 28-year-old: "This will be your first prison sentence, this is all entirely your fault. There is an abuse of trust, you are trusted by young fans to behave properly."
Johnson admitted to kissing the 15-year-old girl in his car on January 30 last year, and to grooming her by sending hundreds of social media messages.
The victim had been a fan of Sunderland and would wait after games to take pictures of Johnson, whom she described as her "favourite player".
Judge Rose added that the girl's age was known to Johnson, saying: "That was known to you -- to put it another way she had only just turned 15 when you began grooming her, because as you were to admit you found her sexually attractive.
"You made a deliberate decision to engage in sexual activity with this young girl, no doubt in the expectation that you would get away with it."
Johnson pleaded guilty on two charges levelled against him, and subsequently had his contract at Sunderland terminated by the club on February 11.
