6 Man Utd Stars In Trouble Following Big Manager Decision

It was reported on Thursday by The Athletic that legendary German football boss Ralf Rangnick has agreed terms with the struggling 20-time European champions. The 63-year-old has reportedly committed to a six-month contract on an interim basis until the end of this season, and will then take up a consultancy role for two years.

Rangnick's potential arrival is exciting news for United supporters who believed previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have been out his depth tactically, but could also spell trouble for a number of the club's current first-team stars.

For David de Gea, there could be a period of adaption due to Rangnick demanding that his goalkeepers work off their line. While the Spaniard is an excellent shot-stopper, he has a tendency to stay as near to his goal as possible.

The German's preference for this is due to the high line with which his teams usually play, making it necessary for his chosen goalkeeper to act as a sweeper-keeper. Playing with the ball at his feet has never been De Gea's strong suit, with many wondering whether back-up keeper Dean Henderson might be favoured.

Forwards such as Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo could be casualties of Rangnick's high-intensity approach to games, with neither players known for their off-the-ball work. Ronaldo, in particular, could face uncertain times over the coming months.

Luke Shaw, perhaps surprisingly, might have something to prove to the German, who discussed the England international's form towards the end of last year and declared that the club should target a new left-back.

"[United] could do with a left-back," he said, according to The Sun.

"I know they have Luke Shaw but I'm not so sure if he's still on the same kind of level you need for a club like Manchester United."

The fullback's performance did improve dramatically in the last six months of the previous campaign, before he went on to enjoy an impressive 2020 UEFA European Championship.
