14 Africans Who Finished Among The EPL's Top Scorers In A Season

With Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah being the second highest scorer in the Premier League so far this season, here are 14 other African stars who finished among the league's top scorers in a single campaign, including Cape Town City manager Benni McCarthy.

Former Mali international Frederic Kanoute hit the back of the net 11 times in the 2000/01 campaign while playing for West Ham United, which was the former striker's only entry in the top 10.

Yakubu, who represented Nigeria at international level, finished in the top 10 on five occasions during his EPL career, with his best season being 2003/04, when he scored on 17 occasions.

Senegalese attacker Henri Camara impressed with 12 goals for Wigan Athletic in the 2005/06 campaign, while former Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba, whose most prolific campaign in 2009/10 saw him net 29 goals, featured three times.

Ex-Bafana Bafana forward Benni McCarthy struck 18 times for Blackburn Rovers in the 2006/07 season, making him the only South African in this list.

Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, finished three times in the top 10 scorers list, while Zimbabwean forward Benjani featured once.

Nigerian forward Peter Odemwingie scored 15 times in the 2010/11 campaign, while Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse (both of Senegal) both ended in the top 10 in the 2011/12 campaign. The gallery also features Ivoirians Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony, Algeria's Riyad Mahrez and Nigeria's Odion Ighalo.

The most goals ever scored by an African in a single EPL season was Drogba's tally of 29, a record Salah could break if he keeps up his excellent run of form. The Egyptian has hit the back of the net on 22 occasions for Liverpool in the league, with 11 games still to play.
