Footballers all around the world dream of playing for a team such as Manchester United, but the club has not always been able to sign the stars it wanted. Here are 10 big names who rejected the Red Devils over the years, including two players in this transfer window!

First on the list is Manchester City defender and captain Vincent Kompany, who revealed, in 2015, that he had the opportunity to join United when he was 17 years old, but decided against it as he wanted to finish his studies in Belgium.
Kompany has gone on to become one of the Premier League's most iconic defenders over the past 10 years, although the Red Devils have not exactly lacked qualify in over the last decade.
John Obi Mikel is known to have snubbed the 20-time league champions in 2005, a year before signing for Chelsea. Gareth Bale is also included after choosing Real Madrid in 2013 over United – a decision that has certainly paid off in terms of trophies.
Pedro nearly joined Louis van Gaal's United three years ago, while, a season later, the club endured an extremely difficult transfer window in which several top European players rejected their advances.
Los Blancos skipper Sergio Ramos was believed to be one of those players, along with former Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels and Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller.
FC Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti revealed to Canal+ earlier this year that he turned United down in 2016, following his transfer to the Blaugrana that year.
Italian publication Calciomercato reported this month that Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed a move back to his former club in this transfer window, deciding to sign for Juventus instead. The Red Devils were believed to be open to the idea of luring him back to England.
New Arsenal acquisition Sokratis Papastathopoulos is also said to be have turned down United in this window, making the move to rivals Arsenal from Dortmund instead.
