According to The Guardian, the club is closing in on the signing of Algerian superstar Riyad Mahrez, who almost joined them in January. Leicester City, however, decided against letting him leave at the time as they did not have a replacement lined up.

Sport Poland recently claimed that Guardiola is after Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, while the tactician has also been linked with a reunion with Bavarians and former FC Barcelona midfielder Thiago.

Reports in Europe also suggest that City are nearing the signing of Napoli midfielder Jorginho, a player who was hailed for his performances in Serie A this season.

Guardiola recently insisted the club will need a replacement for Yaya Toure in midfield, which seems likely to be Jorginho or perhaps even Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred, another player City have reportedly been looking at.

The Citizens have also been linked with a shock move for Chelsea's Eden Hazard as well as Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, who Guardiola is believed to be a massive admirer of.

Defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Toby Alderweireld are also said to be targets, as is Fulham left-back/winger Ryan Sessegnon.
