Retired Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho recently admitted to choosing FC Barcelona over the English club at the last minute in 2003, telling FourFourTwo that he was 48 hours away from joining Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
In 2016, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos revealed in an interview with Sky Sports that he considered a move to United, following rumours that he was getting close to leaving Los Blancos.
Legendary England striker Alan Shearer is also believed to have snubbed United, while ex-boss Ferguson admitted in his autobiography that he attempted to sign Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
German forward Thomas Muller rejected United during Louis van Gaal’s time at the club, with the manager recently revealing that he did attempt to lure the Bayern Munich attacker to England.
Former Barca and Real striker Ronaldo Nazario de Lima rejected United early in his career, as well as Arjen Robben, who decided to sign for PSV Eindhoven in 2004 instead of the Red Devils, despite going on a stadium tour and even having dinner with Ferguson ahead of his expected move.
United tried to battle Real for the signature of Gareth Bale, while Ferguson also admitted that the club attempted to sign Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert after the 1998 FIFA World Cup. It is believed that Kluivert was interested in the offer, but like Ronaldinho, he opted to join Barca.
The last player on the 10-man list is legendary England midfielder Paul Gascoigne, who once made a promise to join Ferguson’s United in 1988. But despite the player giving United his word, he signed for Tottenham Hotspur instead.
