10 Bosses Linked With Newcastle Job After Takeover

With Newcastle United recently being taken over by a billionaire ownership group, here are 10 high-profile managers linked with the club amid reports Steve Bruce is close to being sacked.

The Saudi Arabia-backed takeover was completed last week, with many top footballers, as well as several big-name tacticians, now rumoured to be on the club's radar.

It is widely believed that current Newcastle manager Bruce will be relieved of his duties in the coming days, with the new owners seeking to fast-track their progress ahead of the January transfer window.

The Magpies, at the moment, are 19th in the Premier League, having failed to win a single match in seven outings this season. This could see the club's new bosses act quickly to ensure their project does not start off on the wrong foot.

Who has been linked?

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who has been manager of Rangers since 2018, has been mentioned as a potential candidate. The ex-England midfielder claimed the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership with the Gers and has impressed in European competition too. He does, however, have a contract in Scotland that only expires in 2024.

The 41-year-old's ex-club colleague Danny Murphy has also cast doubt over the possibility of a move for Gerrard to Newcastle materialising, telling talkSPORT: "I think at this stage in Newcastle's revolution it would be too much of a risk; it's a relegation battle, they're not guaranteed to stay up, no matter who comes in to take charge. I'd be surprised if he did jump ship from Rangers."

Reports suggest that Antonio Conte is also on the Magpies' managerial shortlist, as is another former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard. Both tacticians are currently unemployed since their departures from Inter Milan and the Blues, respectively.

According to several publications, ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre seems to be the favourite for the position, which could prove to be bad news for Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Man Utd Make Haaland Decision?

The 24-year-old attacker worked under the Swiss coach at Nice in France, where Favre was once reported to have demanded that the club sell him back to rivals Monaco after the player annoyed him during a training session.

Eddie Howe and Paulo Fonseca are also seen as potential candidates for the job at St James' Park, along with other high-profile bosses who are currently working for other clubs and nations in Europe.
