Despite a positive first half at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, two second-half strikes from Vinicius Junior and Mariano Diaz secured all three points for Los Blancos.
Zinedine Zidane’s team leapfrogged their rivals in LaLiga, and now currently sit above Barca by one point with plenty of football still to be played.
According to a report by Spanish publication El Chiringuito, captain Messi, who headed straight for the tunnel after the game, berated his colleagues in the dressing room after the game, reportedly shouting: "You can't play Real Madrid like that".
The report goes on to claim that the players then looked at manager Quique Setien, who appeared to look upset that his authority was being undermined by the 32-year-old.
Messi cut a frustrated figure for most of the match at the Bernabeu, going close twice in the first 45 minutes with shots at Thibaut Courtois’ goal.
The Argentine has now failed to score or assist in five consecutive Clasicos, which may have added to his frustration at the final whistle.
