Arsenal Cut Down Nottingham Forest In League Cup

English Football League Cup
Result: Nottingham Forest 0-4 Arsenal
Date: 20 September 2016
Venue: The City Ground
Arsenal eased past Nottingham Forest in the English Football League Cup on Tuesday night with a 4-0 victory.
The visitors were almost punished early in the clash for some sloppy play at the back. Ben Osborn won possession in the box and played it on for former Gunner Nicklas Bendtner. He teed up Pajtim Kasami, but his shot was wide.
Arsenal came close in the 15th minute when Jeff Reine-Adelaide threaded a ball through for Chuba Akpom to strike but Vladimir Stojkovic made a terrific save onto the woodwork.
The deadlock was broken for Arsene Wenger's men in the 23rd minute. Granit Xhaka thumped a shot from long range and saw the ball find the back of the net via a deflection.
The Gunners held on to their lead until the break, and extended it on the hour mark. Akpom was tripped in the box by Michael Macienne, giving Lucas the chance to slot a spot-kick for a 3-0 scoreline.
The result was virtually secured in the 71st minute. Macienne was in the thick of it again, losing possession to Lucas who slotted into an empty net after weaving his way past the goalkeeper.
Arsenal cruised to victory in the end as they controlled the game in the last 20 minutes, Forest showed little in terms of resistance, and the travelers added a fourth goal in stoppage-time, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joining the party.
