Liverpool Scrape Past Bournemouth

Capital One Cup

Result: Liverpool 1-0 AFC Bournemouth

Date: 28 October 2015

Venue: Anfield

Liverpool secured their spot in the next round of the Capital One Cup, after defeating AFC Bournemouth 1-0 at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

Adam Bogdan came to home side's rescue as early as the fourth minute, as the Reds shot-stopper pulled off a fine save to deny Junior Stanilas in a one-on-one situation.

Jurgen Klopp's side eventually took the lead in the 17th minute when Nathaniel Clyne slotted into an empty net, after Teixeria's effort had crashed against the upright.

Bournemouth nearly hit back a minute later when Stanilas teed up Harry Arter, who headed inches wide of Bogdan's upright.

Liverpool were then dealt a blow in the 33rd minute when Kolo Toure suffered an injury and was replaced by Martin Skrtel.

Roberto Firminho looked to open his Liverpool account moments later but the Brazilian's curling effort forced Federici into a fine stop.

The Cherries continued to push for an equaliser but Marc Pugh squandered a glorious chance in the 58th minute as weaved his way into the box, before slicing his effort horribly wide.

Substitute Lucas Leiva nearly ended his goal-scoring drought for the Reds, as his effort from distance sailed just wide of the upright in the 77th minute.

Bournemouth went even closer in the 82nd minute when Matt Ritchie picked out Joshua King in the box, however the forward direct his header wide of the mark from close range.

However, Liverpool managed to see off a late surge from the Cherries, as Jurgen Klopp secured his first win as the Reds manager.
