Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly closing in on a Manchester United target, and could complete the deal without having to pay a cent.
The Bianconeri have become one of the smartest operators in the transfer market in recent seasons, during which they have signed the likes of Sami Khedira, Emre Can, Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey on free transfers.
Juve are now reportedly closing in on another soon-to-be free agent after the player rejected an improved offer from his current club.
According to Marca, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, who was previously linked with a move to United, turned down a "double-your-money" offer from Spurs and now looks certain to leave the club in the near future.
The Danish international is entering the final year of his contract with the Lilywhites, and will be allowed to enter pre-contract negotiations with European clubs outside of England from January 2020.
Juventus will reportedly bide their time until then in order to concluded a deal, which would see the 27-year-old move to Italy for free next season.
Signing Eriksen on the cheap would represent a massive coup for the reigning Serie A champions as the former Ajax Amsterdam star carries a reported market value of about €100 million (R1.7 billion).
Eriksen joined Spurs in 2013, and has scored 66 goals in 278 appearances for the club since.
