Rampant Man Utd Punish Chelsea In EPL Opener

English Premier League

Result: Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea

Date: 11 August 2019

Venue: Old Trafford

Manchester United opened their Premier League campaign in fine style after thrashing Frank Lampard's Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

New arrivals Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were in the line-up for their official United debuts, while the other new signing, Daniel James was on the bench.
Tammy Abraham nearly snatched the lead for Frank Lampard’s charges after just four minutes after unleashing a powerful strike from the edge of the box that crashed against the far post.
United were threatening with quick combinations in the last third and they were eventually awarded a penalty in the 17th minute after Kurt Zouma brought down Marcus Rashford inside the box. Rashford did not hesitate to take the penalty and struck a powerful and high strike past Kepa to open the scoring for the Red Devils.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s army had a good attacking spell thereafter and Anthony Martial nearly doubled their lead in the half-hour-mark with a curling strike from the edge of the box, searching for the top corner but his effort sailed over the bar.
The visitors were working their way back into the game towards the end of the half and they were unfortunate five minutes before the break not to have levelled matters as Emerson’s left-footed strike crashed against the top woodwork.
Chelsea came back fired-up in the second stanza and Emerson came close again to making it 1-1 ten minutes after the break with another thumping strike from the left channel, that was punched away by shot-stopper David De Gea.
Lampard made his first change two minute before the hour-mark, as he gave Pulisic his debut from the bench and withdrew Ross Barkley, for a more attacking approach. Soon after Martial doubled the lead for the Red Devils in the 65th minute with a close range finish in the centre of the box, after Andreas Pereira delivered a teasing cross into the box.
Rashford grabbed his brace for the hosts almost immediately after the restart, with a side-footed shot past Kepa after Paul Pogba sent him clear on goal with long dink over the defence.
Pogba setup the fourth goal for United nine minutes before time as he embarked on alung-busting his run before picking Daniel James on the right side of the box, who rounded off the scoring with a deflected finish on his debut.
