It’s a top of the table clash tonight when second-placed Wolfsburg host undefeated league leaders Bayern Munich as they look to tighten the 11 point gap to the German champions.
Wolfsburg, who recently travelled to South Africa to play club friendlies against Ajax Cape Town (4-1) and Chippa United (4-3), will come in to this match with great confidence after a string of good performances.
Coincidently, Bayern are the last team to beat Wolfsburg at home in the league, dating back as far as March.
There is an expected tribute to be paid to the late Junior Malanda who tragically lost his life in a fatal car crash over the festive season.
Felipe, Joshua Guilavogui and Patrick Ochs are all expected to miss tonight’s fixture with their respective injuries.
Bayern Munich will see this fixture as their toughest test yet, as they will look to extend their 11 point gap and edge closer to another Bundesliga title.
They’re of course without captain Phillip Lahm as the retired international is still recovering from a broken ankle which he sustained in a training session 2 months ago.
Xabi Alonso and Sebastian Rode are also doubts, but Schweinsteiger has been given the go ahead.
Bayern have only conceded four goals during the first half of the season, but they come up against the third-best attack of the league.
Here is how they line-up:
Wolfsburg: Benaglio, Vieirinha, Naldo, Knoche, Rodriguez - Luiz Gustavo, Arnold, Caligiuri, De Bruyne, Perisic, Dost
Bayern Munich: Neuer, Boateng, Dante, Lewandowski, Robben, Alonso, Bernat, Rode, Müller, Alaba, Schweinsteiger
