Three second half goals from Mainz saw them come from behind to beat Stuttgart 3-1 at the Opel Arena.
Stuttgart took the lead going into the half time break thanks to a goal from Christian Gentner, but fell apart in the second half.
Goals in the second half from Emil Berggreen, Abdou Diallo and Suat Serdar handed Mainz the win on the night.
Paderborn 1-0 Ingolstadt
A single goal from Ben Zolinski in the second half handed Paderborn a slender 1-0 win over Ingolstadt at the Benteler Arena.
Schalke 1-0 FC Koln
A second-half goal from Max Meyer saw Schalke beat FC Koln 1-0 at the Veltins Arena.
Nurnberg 0-2 Wolfsburg
Extra-time goals from Felix Uduokhai and Daniel Didavi was the difference on the night as Wolfsburg beat Nurnberg 2-0 at the Max-Morlock-Stadion after 120 minutes of action.
The two sides could not be separated after regular time ended goalless and the cup match moved into extra-time.
The winner was scored seven minutes into the first half of extra-time by Uduokhai while a goal in the 120th minute from Didavi secured the win.
