Date: 16 October 2015
Venue: Coface Arena
Goals from Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan handed Borussia Dortmund a 2-0 win over Mainz at the Coface Arena Friday night.
Mainz nearly broke the deadlock after seven minutes when Muto was played through on goal, however Roman Burki was on hand to deny the forward from close range.
Dortmund eventually broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did well to pick out Marco Reus, who calmly slotted past Loris Karius.
Pablo de Blasis nearly hit back for the hosts in the 22nd minute as he cut in from the flank, before firing an effort just wide of the upright.
The home side went close once again in the 34th minute when Yunus Mali forced Burki into a save with a curling set-piece from distance.
Dortmund were awarded a penalty shortly after the halftime break, however Karius guessed the right way to deny Reus from 12-yards out.
It proved to be a busy night for Dortmund's Burki, as he came rushing off his line to deny Muto in another one-on-one situation in the 61st minute.
Shinji Kagawa nearly doubled Dortmund's advantage in the 63rd minute but the midfielder's attempted lob sailed inches over the crossbar.
The visitors pushed for a second goal and were nearly rewarded in the 79th minute but Aubameyang fired agonisingly wide of the target, after being played by Mkhitaryan.
However, Dortmund eventually sealed the win in the 83rd minute when Aubameyang squared the ball for Mkhitaryan, who rounded Karius to slot into an empty net.
Karius had to be at his best to keep the score at 2-0 in the 88th minute, as he pulled off a fine stop to deny Dortmund defender, Park Joo-ho.
