Result: Bayern Munich 5-0 Werder Bremen
Date: 12 March 2016
Venue: Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich were in fine form as they romped to a comfortable 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen on Saturday evening.
The hosts wasted no time in making their intentions clear, and they were rewarded as early as the eighth minute when Thiago Alcantara found himself at the end of a Kingsley Coman cross, 1-0.
They continued to look the more threatening outfit, and Mario Gotze forced a fine save out of the visiting ‘keeper with a 23rd minute effort.
Seven minutes later, Thomas Muller rocked up to add his name to the scoresheet with a sublime effort in the top corner, 2-0. Werder Bremen were struggling to put together any real threat on goal, and Florian Grillitsch’s effort a few moments later was further evidence of their struggles.
The home side upped the tempo in the last few minutes of the first stanza, and the likes of Thiago, Muller and Frank Ribery had lovely chances go a begging.
The second stanza continued in pretty much the same fashion as the first, Bayern dominating much of the play and Gotze was unlucky not to find the back of the net with his 48th minute strike.
After waves and waves of attacks, the hosts finally added another goal to their tally as Muller made it 3-0 with a 64th minute effort.
Pep Guardiola’s charges were looking a class above their opponents in the closing exchanges and Robert Lewandowski had to join in on the party as he made it 4-0 with a lovely finish.
There was still time for another, as Thiago slotted one right at the death to complete his brace and complete the 5-0 rout.
