Result: Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
Date: 26 August 2017
Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace to lead Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich to a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen at the Weser-Stadion on Saturday afternoon.
The Bavarians put the pressure on early on as Arjen Robben had a shot from close range that was saved by Jiri Pavlenka in the fifth minute of the encounter.
In the tenth minute Arturo Vidal had a chance to open the scoring for the visitors but his right footed shot from just outside the box missed slightly wide of the post.
Carlo Ancelotti's side were in complete control of the match entering the 20th minute, with Bremen barely withstanding a wave of attack after another.
After the half-hour-mark, Alexander Nouri's charges started coming out of their defensive blocks, launching their own attacks.
However, the Bavarians found their rhythm again as in the 40th minute Robben thought he had found the breakthrough but his header from the centre of the box was smothered by Pavlenka.
The match went into the interval with Bayern having wasted a lot of chances to be ahead but Bremen were holding on, at 0-0.
The first ten minutes of the second half was scrappy with the Green and Whites having found their footing, cancelling out the Bavarians in the middle of the park.
On the hour-mark Vidal could not find the breakthrough goal as his right-footed shot from just outside the box was turned away by Pavlenka.
Bayern finally broke the deadlock in the 71st minute through Robert Lewandowski, who scored from a very close range after being assisted by Kingsley Coman to make it 1-0.
Lewandowski quickly made it 2-0 to the Bavarians three minutes later after being assisted by Thomas Muller. The towering striker had acres of space in the centre of the 18-yard box and hit a right footed shot that found the roof of the net.
With only ten minutes to go before the final whistle, the Bavarians were still pushing forward looking to end the game as a contest.
However, Bayern failed to add to their advantage as the score remained 2-0 at the full-time whistle.
