Carlo Ancelotti's could not establish any rhythm in the game as every time they surged forward they left themselves exposed at the back.
In the 40th minute Demirbay nearly doubled the lead with a powerful shot from the left channel but Ulreich made an equally good save to keep the scoreline at 1-0.
The match went into the half-time break with Hoffenheim leading by 1-0.
Bayern started the second-half with positive energy as they were looking to comeback into the game.
Xabi Alonso had a chance in the 51st minute to level the score but his shot went over the bar from the edge of the box.
Robert Lewandowski could not cap off a great attacking move after being pressured to shoot inside the box narrowly missing at the far post after the hour-mark.
Bayern continued to push for an equaliser and went close in the 74th minute when Mats Hummels had his header cleared off the line by Sebastian Ruby.
The Bundesliga leaders threw everything forward in the closing stages of the second half, but the host managed to hold on for an impressive three points.
