After being dumped out of the UEFA Champions League, Bayern Munich have now dropped points at home after drawing 2-2 with Mainz.
Bojan Krkic gave Mainz the lead after three minutes making no mistake in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, after an error from Arturo Vidal.
However in the 16th minute Arjen Robben equalised to make, as the Dutchman turned home Franck Ribery's cross from close range.
Carlo Ancelotti's charges started to come to life and were dominating the midfield and passing the ball around with intensity.
Robert Lewandowski came close to making it 2-0 after 35 minutes but Jannik Huth did well to save at the far post.
Mainz was awarded a penalty five minutes later after Yoshinori Muto was fouled by Joshua Kimmich inside the box. Daniel Brosinski stepped up and restored the visitors' lead.
In the 55th minute Mainz were forced to make a change as their second goalscorer Daniel Brosinski came off hobbling to be replaced by Leon-Aderemi Balogun.
Thiago Alcantara brought the Bavarians level in the 75th minute with a fine low driven effort from 25-yards out, 2-2.
The away side were living dangerously in the closing stages, as Ancelotti's charges were pressing for that winning goal
However, Mainz managed to hold out till the final whistle and claimed a vital points on the road.
