Bayern Claim Three Points With Narrow Win

Bundesliga
Result: Bayern Munich 1-0 Eintracht Frankfurt
Date: 2 April 2016
Venue: Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich ground out a 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga encounter on Saturday.
Die Roten had half a chance to take the lead in the 15th minute when a poor clearance from the visitors gave Xabi Alonso possession. The former Real Madrid midfielder sent it on for Thiago who attempted a half-volley, but it was way off target.
The breakthrough arrived for Bayern shortly thereafter as Franck Ribery found the back of the net. Mario Gotze's initial shot was parried by the goalkeeper, but only as far as Ribery who scored with an angled overhead kick.
Aside from the goal there were few chances in the first half as Frankfurt looked to defend deep and with numbers.
The hosts came within a few inches of doubling their lead after the break. A free kick from Alonso bent over the wall but then hit the post of the Frankfurt goal.
Alonso continued threatening and forced Hradecky into a spectacular save as he sent a thunderous drive on target that was stopped with one hand.
Bayern claimed the win to pull eight points clear of Dortmund at the top of the table. At the time of writing Dortmund still had a game in hand.
