Bayern Into DFB Pokal Last Eight
Bayern Munich made their way into the quarter-final stage of the DFB Pokal with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Eintracht Braunschweig on Wednesday.
The hosts were off to a shaky start as Braunschweig had a good penalty shout in the ninth minute. Zuck broke down the left flank and cut inside before going down inside the area. The visiting players were convinced they deserved a spot kick, but the referee was not interested.
The Bavarians had a great chance to break the deadlock in the 20th minute. Arjen Robben picked out Franck Ribery on the left and the Frenchman cut inside before unleashing a shot, but the effort lacked conviction and went straight at the goalkeeper.
Bayern found their first goal on the stroke of half-time. It took a fantastic individual effort from David Alaba to give the hosts the lead. The Austria international produced a magnificent curling free kick that nestled in the top right corner of the visitors' goal.
Die Roten took command of the clash in the 57th minute as they doubled their lead. Mario Gotze beat Decarli's challenge and proceeded to fire home a powerful finish that bulged the back of the net.
