Before joining the Italian giants at the beginning of the season, the Portuguese forward was linked with a host of teams across Europe.

Bayern were said to be one of those clubs, but Bavarians chief Uli Hoeness has revealed that they believed he was too expensive for his age.

"CR7 is 33 years old, and he would have cost us €100 million (R1.5 billion)," he told Bild.

"We would have taken him for this figure if he was 24 years old."
