There are only two match days left in Germany’s top flight, with Bayern Munich already being crowned winners after claiming the title for a sixth consecutive campaign.

As a consequence, it comes to no surprise that the record champions have with six players, namely Joshua Kimmich, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski, the most nominees for the Team of the Season.

Third-placed Borussia Dortmund follow with five nominees, while two of the candidates are coming from Africa.

New Liverpool signing Naby Keita, who will join the Reds from Red Bull Leipzig at the end of the campaign, could make the Team of the Season for a second successive year after scoring six goals and assisting in another five in 2017/18.

In Kevin-Prince Boateng another African is nominated in the central midfield position. The Ghana star has played a major part in Eintracht Frankfurt’s surprising campaign that has earned their coach Nico Kovac the honour to replace Jupp Heynckes at Bayern next season.

Keita-teammate Dayot Upamecano, who was born in France but is of Bissau-Guinean descent, is also on the shortlist after impressing in the centre-back position for Leipzig this season. Despite being just 19-years old, the robust defender has 26 Bundesliga appearances for his side. He represented France at youth level but could still switch allegiances at senior because he hasn't been called up by France as yet.
