Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski could get his hands on the Ballon d'Or after all following Lionel Messi's comments at the ceremony in Paris this week.

The 2020 edition of the Ballon d'Or was controversially cancelled by France Football, who cited the COVID-19 pandemic as their reason for doing so.
Their decision led to an unhappy reaction from fans around the world, especially as it appeared that Lewandowski would likely have been the recipient.
After collecting his seventh Ballon d'Or on Monday night, Messi appeared to echo that sentiment on stage during his acceptance speech.
The growing outcry for Lewandowski to win the prestigious individual prize has reached the office of France Football editor Pascal Ferre, who has now addressed the possibility of his publication reversing their decision to dismiss last year's awarding of the trophy.
"We don't have to rush this decision. We can think about it long and hard," he told news outlet Watson, after being pressed for a response.
"We can't be sure whether Lewandowski would have won the Ballon d'Or last year because there was no vote."
The Poland international narrowly missed out on the 2021 trophy to Messi, whom he sat alongside at the event on Monday night, with many believing it was the Bayern forward who was more deserving of the award.
Messi, however, received 33 more votes to claim a record-extending seventh Golden Ball.
