Kovac, who has replaced Jupp Heynckes at the Allianz Arena, has a mammoth task ahead of him to emulate the success of the retired Bayern boss.
He did, though, beat his new employers in his last game with his previous club, when Eintracht Frankfurt upset the Bundesliga champions in the German Cup final.
Kovac, who himself played for Bayern between 2001 and 2003, has now begun his tenure as the club's head coach, and is reportedly prepared to sell four of the club's main stars.
According to German publication Bild, Bayern would be prepared to sell centre-back Jerome Boateng, midfield duo Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara, as well as left-back Juan Bernat.
Boateng has stated that it might be time for a new challenge, and the club would prepared to let him go but only if their massive €80 million (R1.24 billion) asking price for the 29-year-old is met.
Vidal, meanwhile, was reportedly high on Antonio Conte's wish list before he was sacked as Chelsea boss. It is believed that Manchester United and Napoli are monitoring the player's situation, but he is still recovering from a knee injury and would not be able to undergo a medical as a result.
Thiago reportedly wants to return to his former club FC Barcelona, while it is believed that new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui, who worked with the midfielder during his time as Spain boss, wants to lure him to Real Madrid.
Back-up left-back Bernat is the fourth player on the axe list after failing to secure a regular starting spot in Bayern's line-up. The player, though, is in no rush to leave and could run down his contract because he would get a signing-on fee as a free agent.
