Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have announced the signing of a 17-year-old African-born wonderkid on a four-year deal.
The German club confirmed the signing of Alphonso Davies, a player considered one of football's brightest young talents, from MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday evening.
The teenager will only officially join Bayern in January 2019, and will have a contract in Germany until 2023.
Davies has already represented Canada eight times at senior level, and Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has hailed the player's promise.
"Alphonso Davies is a very big talent," he said, according to the club's official site.
"At the age of 17, he offers a lot of promise for the future. Alphonso already possesses great ability, which is why a lot of top clubs were keen on him.
"I'm delighted he's chosen FC Bayern. I want to thank everyone who worked on this transfer, especially our scouting and legal departments. It was outstanding teamwork."
The player himself spoke about his excitement over the deal.
"I'm very happy about my transfer to FC Bayern. As a kid, I always dreamed about this moment and now the dream has come true.
"But now the hard work continues, I have to give everything to make the most of this opportunity."
Davies was born in 2000 in Ghana to Liberian parents, but moved to Canada when he was five years old.
