Keita & Mane Urge German Striker To Join Liverpool
A Germany striker, who is reportedly being closely monitored by Bayern Munich, has been urged to make the switch from the Bundesliga to the Premier League by Liverpool's African duo Naby Keita and Sadio Mane.
RB Leipzig star Timo Werner has been the subject of reported interest from Bayern and Liverpool, and with the 22-year-old soon entering the final year of his current deal, the former Vfb Stuttgart forward is likely to make a decision about his future in due time.
Although the player is yet to give any hint as to where his future may lie, Leipzig are faced with the option of either cashing in on their prized asset in the upcoming transfer windows, extending his contract or losing him on a free transfer in July 2020.
Despite recently being advised by club coach Ralf Rangnick not to consider a move to Anfield, Reds midfielder Keita has gone public in attempting to persuade Werner to join Jurgen Klopp's side.
"We played really well together at Leipzig, and he was one of my best mates," the Guinea star was quoted as saying by ESPN.
"It's clear: Should he move, then I ask Timo to join us here at Liverpool."
Mane echoed Keita's sentiments, citing some of Werner's attributes he believes would prove useful for Liverpool.
"I'd advise him to join Liverpool," the Senegal attacker said.
"I like his style of play. Very forceful, good finish, always giving it 100%. If he wants to join us, we'd welcome him to our team.
"When it was clear that Naby would join us, I often watched Leipzig matches. But to be honest: It was dreadful for me at the start.
"Naby saw quite a few red cards. I then asked Kevin Kampl, my friend from our time at RB Salzburg, why Naby always got sent off. He didn't know.
"Naby missed some important games and I could watch other players more closely. And Timo stood out."
Werner is currently one of the top goalscorers in the German top flight, with 11 goals scored in the 20 league matches he has featured thus far in this campaign.
