Nigeria legend Jay-Jay Okocha, who played in the Bundesliga, has sent a message to a South African starlet who recently signed for one of the biggest teams in Germany.
The former Super Eagles playmaker spent six years playing in the German top flight following his move from Enugu Rangers IFC to Borussia Neunkirchen in 1990.
With promising 18-year-old talent Tashreeq Matthews having joined Borussia Dortmund earlier this month, Okocha has encouraged the Ajax Cape Town academy product to be brave and to make the most of his massive opportunity.
"Well, I would say that he should not be afraid of the challenges that he will face, especially at the early stage, you know," he told Soccer Laduma.
"Let the curiosity of learning something new be his strength instead of weakness. He needs a strong mindset to go through that new adventure and be curious to learn.
"I have not heard much about him. But, to be honest, for Dortmund to sign him, he must have something special.
"Hopefully he will go on and live up to expectations and develop, you know. But it will take some time – he will need to get used to his new environment, new culture, new mentality.
"It is not going to be easy but, of course, it is all up to him. He has to survive to succeed, but he has got every opportunity now and it is up to him to grab it."
Having also starred for Eintracht Frankfurt, Okocha made 90 appearances in the Bundesliga before leaving for Turkey and then to Paris Saint-Germain in France.
The Nigeria legend gained even more recognition at Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League, before spells with Qatar SC and Hull City.
Matthews has already featured for BVB's U19 team in the UEFA Youth League this season.
