Dortmund Pip Bayern To Super Cup

German Super Cup
Result: Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Bayern Munich
Date: 03 August 2019
Venue: Signal-Iduna Park
Borussia Dortmund claimed the first piece of silverware on offer for the season as they defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 to clinch the German Super Cup on Saturday night.
Bayern coach Niko Kovac went for the tried and tested as two of the club's three new signings, Benjamin Pavard and Jann-Fiete Arp started on the bench, while Lucas Hernandez missed out through injury.
Other than a slight scare for Bayern in the opening minutes, it took a while for the game light up as both sides looked to feel each other out in the early stages.
The Bavarians had to wait until the 24th minute for their first real opening at goal as Kingsley Coman forced Marwin Hitz into a superb save before Leon Goretzka fired inches wide moments later.
Unfortunately, the rest of the half failed to provide a single clear-cut chance at the either end, as the intensity level dropped quite a bit in the final 10 minutes.
Dortmund came out of the break rejuvenated and broke the deadlock three minutes in as Jadon Sancho did well to pick out Paco Alcacer, who sent a first-time finish past Manuel Neuer.
Bayern pushed forward an equaliser as Joshua Kimmich and Coman were denied, but it was Dortmund who got the next goal as Sancho registered a goal to go with his assist as he neatly finished through the legs of Neuer with 20 minutes remaining.
Renato Sanches and Pavard were introduced in latter stages of the second half for the Bundesliga champions, but their arrival made no real impact going forward.
In the end, Dortmund ran out 2-0 winners to claim the German Super Cup.
