Bundesliga Wrap: Dortmund Relinquish Top Spot

Borussia Dortmund gave up their spot at the top of the German Bundesliga standings despite victory on Saturday as the title race intensifies.

Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Stuttgart

Borussia Dortmund relinquished top spot in the Bundesliga table despite a 3-1 win over Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon at Signal-Iduna Park.

A Marco Reus penalty opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 62nd minute before Marc-Oliver Kempf equalised for the visitors.

Goals from Paco Alcacer and Christian Pulisic made sure of the three points, however BVB were pipped to top spot by Bayern Munich, who thrashed Wolfsburg 6-0.

Bayern Munich 6-0 Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich moved to the summit of the Bundesliga table on goal difference with a 6-0 drubbing of Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon at the Allianz Arena.

Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace while Serge Gnabry, James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich were all on target for the Bavarians, who like Dortmund have 57 points but have scored two more goals in the league this season.

Freiburg 2-1 Hertha Berlin

Hertha Berlin missed an opportunity to move in to eighth position on the standings after a 2-1 defeat at Freiburg on Saturday afternoon.

Nils Petersen gave Freiburg a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute before Vedad Ibisevic equalized in the 76th minute. However, the Bosnian forward turned from hero to villain when he scored an own goal in the 82nd minute as Hertha succumbed to their eighth defeat of the season.

RB Leipzig 0-0 Augsburg

Augsburg and RB Leipzig played to a 0-0 bore draw in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon at Red Bull Arena.

Augsburg created further distance between themselves and the relegation zone and are in 15th spot with 22 points from 25 matches while Leipzig stay in third place with 46 points from the same number of matches.

Mainz 0-1 Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach moved level on points with RB Leipzig with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mainz at Coface Arena on Saturday evening.

Nicolas Elvedi scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute as Monchengladbach moved to 46 points but remain in fourth position by virtue of an inferior goal difference. Meanwhile, Mainz dropped to 13th position after Freiburg leapfrogged them with a 2-1 victory over Hertha Berlin earlier in the day.
