German Bundesliga Wrap, 22 April 2018
Schalke dropped two valuable points in their quest for second place in the German Bundesliga on Sunday while Mainz hover just above the relegation zone after their loss.
FC Koln 2-2 Schalke
Bottom-of-the-log FC Koln scored in the 83rd minute to salvage a 2-2 draw against Schalke at the RheinEnergieStadion.
Breel Embolo opened the scoring for Schalke in the fifth minute before Evgen Konoplyanka doubled their lead in the 23rd minute.
FC Koln, though, fought back with goals from Leonardo Bittencourt three minutes later, while Marcel Risse earned them a share of the spoils seven minutes from time.
Despite the draw, FC Kon still sit bottom of the league table while Schalke are in second place, just two points above third-placed Dortmund.
Augsburg 2-0 Mainz
A comprehensive performance from Augsburg saw them beat Mainz 2-0 at the WWK Arena to leave the latter hovering just above the relegation zone.
Goals in each half from Michael Gregoritsch and Alfred Finnbogason handed Augsburg their 10th league win of the season to see them in 11th place on the table.
The loss for Mainz is their 15th of the season and sees them one place above the relegation zone (15th) on 30 points, only better off than 14th place Freiburg on goal difference.
