Result: Wolfsburg 1-3 Bayern Munich
Date: 20 October 2018
Venue: Volkswagen Arena
Robert Lewandowski bagged two goals and an assist to inspire ten-man Bayern Munich to a 3-1 win over Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
The Bavarians came into the clash winless in their last four Bundesliga encounters and four points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern had endured their worst start to a league campaign since 2010 with 13 points from their opening seven matches, but they did nothing to improve that in the early stages as they struggled to carve out chances in the opening 15 minutes.
Bayern eventually took the lead on 30 minutes as Mats Hummles threaded a superb pass for Lewandowski, who calmly slotted through the legs of Koen Casteels.
Niko Kovac's men dominated the remainder of the first half, but they were unable to add to their advantage before the halftime break.
The lead was doubled three minutes into the second half as Serge Gnabry's cross found Lewandowski, who rounded Casteels before slotting into an empty net.
The game turned on it's head after the hour when Arjen Robben was sent off for picking up his second yellow card of the game, before Wolsfburg pulled one back through Wout Weghorst.
However, Bayern calmed the fears of their supporters by restoring their two-goal advantage in the 72nd minute, with Lewandowski turning provider to pick James Rodriguez for the close range finish.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the defending champions were able to see out the remaining stages of the half to claim three points.
