Goals from Leon Goretzka and Thiago Alcantara guided Bayern Munich to a 2-1 win over Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
The Bavarians nearly broke the deadlock after 16 minutes when Thomas Muller teed up David Alaba on the egde of the box, but the full-back sent his effort just wide of the upright.
Bayern thought they had taken the lead after 32 minutes when Thiago converted from close range. However, the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for Serge Gnabry's foul in the build-up.
The visitors were not to be denied in the 39th minute as Joshua Kimmich broke down the right flank before picking out Leon Goretzka, who volleyed home from close range.
That proved to be the final chance of the half, as Bayern went into the halftime break leading by the lone goal.
Three minutes into the second half, Mainz were level as Boetius got ahead of his marker to turn home a cross from Brosinski frm close range.
However, Bayern restored their lead in the 62nd minute as Robert Lewandowski broke into the box before laying the ball off for Thiago, who slots home from close range.
The woodwork denied Bayern a third goal in the 75th minute, with Javi Martinez rattling the upright with a powerful strike from distance.
Mainz pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but the visitors saw out the remaining stages to pick up three points.
