Reus On Target Again As Dortmund Drop Points
German Bundesliga Report: Borussia Dortmund v Augsburg 26 February 2018
Result: Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Augsburg
Date: 26 February 2018
Venue: Signal Iduna Park
Marco Reus scored for the second successive Bundesliga game as Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 with Augsburg on Monday evening,
Dortmund, who lined up with Michy Batshuayi, Mario Gotze and Andre Schurrle in attack, got off to a slow start and failed to threaten the Augsburg defence in the opening 10 minutes.
However, the deadlock was eventually broken in the 16th minute when Martin Hinteregger deflected Schurrle's cross into the path of Reus, who slotted home from close range.
Augsburg, who lost their last two league encounters, struggled to provide any real attacking threat as Michael Gregoritsch cut a frustrated figure up front.
Dortmund enjoyed most of the possession but only had Reus' goal to show for their efforts in the opening 45 minutes as they went into the break leading by the one goal.
Ten minutes into the second half, Augsburg nearly restored parity through Jonathan Schmid, who sent a header wide of the post.
Augsburg's pressure eventually paid off in the 73rd minute when Kevin Danso bundled the ball home from close range after his initial header was saved by Burki.
Dortmund did have a chance to restore their lead 10 minutes later but Schurrle dragged his close-range effort wide of the mark as the clash ended all square.
As a result, Dortmund remain in second spot, 19 points behind leaders Bayern Munich while Augsburg move up to eighth spot.
