oals from Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, saw Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich register a 2-1 win over Schalke at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern broke the deadlock after just six minutes, courtesy of a simple tap-in from Lewandowski after Muller's initial strike was saved.
Schalke, however, did not sit back and went in search of an equaliser with Bree Embolo threatening on the flanks.
The equaliser eventually arrived in the 29th minute, as Leon Goretkza steered a cross into the path of Franco Di Santo, who fired the ball into the bottom corner.
However, Bayern restored their lead on 36 minutes, when Muller's cross-cum-shot managed to sneak past Fahrmann, 2-1.
The second half started at a slow pace, with neither side really pushing for a goal in the opening 10 minutes.
Schalke nearly restored parity in the 71st minute when Harit teed up Embolo, who saw his fierce strike superbly tipped away by Sven Ulriech.
Jupp Heynckes introduced the likes of Kingsley Coman and Javi Martinez as the hosts looked to see out the remaining stages with ease.
That was the case as Schalke failed to find an equaliser in the latter stages of the half.
