German Bundesliga
Result: Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Stuttgart
Date: 23 November 2018
Venue: BayArena
Kevin Volland netted a second-half brace as Bayer Leverkusen returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Friday.
Heiko Herrlich's troops entered the encounter having suffered back-to-back defeats in the German top flight.
The host enjoyed a lot of the ball in the early stages, which resulted in the game's first chance in the 12th minute as Kai Havertz forced Rob Zieler into a fine save.
The chances continued to fall for the hosts as the half went on, but the likes of Tin Jedvaj and Kevin Volland failed to take advantage, giving hope to Stuttgart.
Stuttgart, meanwhile, were unable to mount any serious attempts at goal as Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky barely had a save to make in the opening 45 minutes.
As a result, the sides went into the halftime break level pegging, although the hosts would have been less happier after failing to convert chances.
Stuttgart nearly broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half through Mario Gomez, but Hradecky was on to deny the forward with a save.
With Leverkusen struggling to get the break, a double change was made as Lucas Alario and Mitchell Weiser replaced Charles Aranguiz and Jedvaj after 66 minutes.
However, the deadlock was eventually broken in the 78th minute as Havertz's well-weighted found Volland, who made no mistake from close range.
The three points were sealed with seven minutes to play as Volland bagged his second of the night as the host got their campaign back on track.
