Freiburg 1-3 Mainz

Mainz got their first win of the Bundesliga season after defeating Freiburg 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

It was a day to remember for Jean-Philippe Mateta, who managed to bag a first-half hat-trick to take his tally to seven goals for the season.

Nils Petersen did manage to pull a goal back in the 63rd minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

The win moved Mainz up to 15th spot, two points and one spot behind Freiburg.

Koln 1-2 Union Berlin

Union Berlin's impressive start to the season with a 2-1 victory away to Koln on Sunday evening.

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring for the visitors with his first league goal of the season in the 27th minute.

Koln were back on level terms just under 10 minutes later, with Ellyes Skhiri opening his account for the season.

However, Berlin had the final say after Max Kruse bagged the winning goal in the 72nd minute to send the side up to fifth spot.
